ELL (English Language Learning)

Romans 12:7: “If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well.”

English Language Learning (ELL), also known as English as a Second Language, is an English class for those new to our country.

Most of our students come from Mexico, but we have had some from South America, Vietnam, China and Belarus. St. Peter’s has been offering this program since 2004.

Classes, held on Tuesday evenings from October to May, include a lead teacher with volunteers to assist students with speaking, reading, and writing.Students are immersed in English vocabulary, conversation, dialogues, songs, games, and videos. Community connections like the food bank and clothes closet are explained. Students are invited to attend a Feliz Navidad party in December and a graduation in May. We’ve even celebrated by attending a wedding of two students who had met in ELL class!
